EC2 Savings Plans

Opportunity Name: EC2 Savings Plans Opportunity Identification

AWS Resource Type: EC2 instance (and applicable AWS services covered under Savings Plans)

Opportunity Description:
This Finder identifies EC2 usage patterns where customers can benefit from purchasing AWS Savings Plans, which offer significantly reduced rates compared to On-Demand pricing. Savings Plans provide flexible pricing benefits across instance families, sizes, regions, and even compatible services like AWS Lambda and Fargate.

By analyzing historical EC2 usage data, CloudFix helps identify ideal Savings Plan coverage opportunities to deliver cost reductions while preserving operational flexibility.

Criteria for identifying the opportunity:

  • Sustained On-Demand EC2 usage over the past 30–60–90 days.
  • Consistent utilization trends, indicating the environment is suitable for a 1-year or 3-year commitment.
  • Excludes workloads with highly variable usage or short lifecycle deployments.
  • Recommendations are geared toward Compute Savings Plans, which offer broadest flexibility and maximum coverage.

Potential Savings (if known):
Typical savings range between 30–60% for most customers.

What happens when the Fixer is executed?
This Finder does not include an automatic Fixer. The customer must manually purchase the recommended Savings Plans using the AWS Billing and Cost Management Console or AWS CLI.

CloudFix provides specific, actionable recommendations including:

  • Suggested hourly commitment amount
  • Recommended term (1 or 3 years)
  • Optimal payment options (upfront vs. no upfront)

💡 For even greater savings and automation, upgrade to CloudFix RightSpend:
RightSpend delivers advanced, automated Reserved Instance (RI) and Savings Plan management—helping you lock in deeper discounts, avoid commitment risk, and dynamically align coverage to your changing usage.

Is it possible to roll back once CloudFix implements the fixer?
No. Savings Plan purchases are non-refundable and irreversible, which is why CloudFix applies a conservative analysis to mitigate overcommitment risks.

Can CloudFix implement the fix automatically once I accept the recommendation?
No. Manual purchase is required. However, CloudFix RightSpend offers automated procurement, renewal, and adjustment of RIs and Savings Plans—unlocking higher savings with minimal effort.

Does this fix require downtime?
No. There is no downtime or infrastructure change involved—Savings Plans impact billing only.
